Excavation 2008

Elisabeth Katzy, M.A. / Katharina Schmidt

Aims
On the citadel, Teams A, B and C continued their work. Part of it was the excavation and recovery of grave 16 which had already been discovered in 2007, but due to time-constraints work on it had to be postponed until this season. The investigations of the prehistoric settlement were concentrated on the northern slope in the scope of excavating them on a larger scale. Here, at the highest point of the citadel, it is possible to record the entire stratigraphy of the site. In the lower town new trenches were opened. Their goal was to check and, if necessary, supplement Max von Oppenheim’s documentation. Thus, Team E investigated the area of the so-called «Stadttempel» and Team F made a sounding at the city wall.
